Admission Process at SSPAD

Bachelor of Design is a four-year degree programme offered by Symbiosis School of Planning Architecture and Design under the umbrella of FoAD – Faculty of Architecture and Design. The degree is awarded by the Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU), Pune, which is established under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 vide notification No. 9-12/2001-U.3 dated 10th November 2006 of UGC, Government of India. This programme is aimed at creating professionals who can contribute to the highly dynamic and competitive world of Design.

Eligibility

Essential:

• A candidate must have passed 10+2 (any stream; eg. Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent OR 10+3 Diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with minimum 50% (SC/ST - 45%) aggregate marks obtained in the final examination to be eligible for the above-mentioned programme.


• A candidate appearing for the final examination of 10+2 grade or 10+3 Diploma programme may also apply provided the results of the examination should have been declared by June of the admission year or prior to be eligible for the above mentioned programme.

Nagpur Domicile: 

• 25% (Twenty-five percent) seats are reserved for candidates domiciled in Nagpur.
• Meaning of "Nagpur Domiciled" Candidates for admission to UG programmes:
• "Nagpur Domiciled" means persons, who are domiciled in Nagpur for a period of 5 (five) years as on the date of commencement of the academic year, and who have class XII from Maharashtra State Board or equivalent exam or Degree certificate or are appearing for the qualifying examination of Nagpur University before admission to the programme.

1. Domicile certificate issued by the competent authority (Collector`s office).
2. Standard XII Marksheet. Applicants appearing Standard XII can submit Bonafide certificate from the current institution and Standard X Mark sheet.
3. Last five year education documents which prove the Nagpur domicile category

Desirable:

The candidate should possess Creative Aptitude & Skills necessary to pursue Design Education as well as adoptability to the situations, which the profession demands. Candidates with the relevant portfolio would be preferred.

Admission Procedure for the First Year

For Indian Students

All Indian students are required to take the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), which will be held on Sunday, 13th February 2022. No candidate is entitled to seek admission to SSPAD without a valid SEED score. Validity of SEED score is for one year only.

How to appear for SEED?

Register online for SEED at www.sspad.edu.in. Facility of payment of SEED fee and printing of Admit Card is available online. A student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme at Symbiosis needs to follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1	Register online by paying Rs. 2950/- (Rs. 26466D1950/- for SEED & Rs. 1000/- for SSPAD)
Step 2	Appear for the test on 13th February 2022

Admission to B.Des programme of SSPAD will be according to the following process.

Level 1	Online Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED). The result of SEED will be put up on the SSPAD website as per the schedule. If a candidate qualifies SEED, he/she would be eligible to appear for SSPAD’s Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI). Shortlisting for admission will be based only by specialization selected during online registration.
Level 2	Upload the Portfolio on the portal a day prior to the PRPI. For portfolio specifications
Level 3	Perform the PRPI Task. This will be shared 3 days prior to the chosen date of online PRPI. Upload the PRPI Task on the portal a day prior to the PRPI.
Level 4	Appear for the online Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI)

Final selection would be based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task and Personal Interaction as well as on the basis of the information provided by the candidate in the application form and the chosen specialization.

Portfolio Guidelines:

Your digital portfolio should be a compilation of your best works showcasing your skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. Click good quality pictures of these and compile them in a PowerPoint Presentation of maximum 15 slides. Convert this into a PDF of size up to 5 MB. Do make sure to include the work you are proudest of. Try to be different and include unique and interesting things.

Do note that if any incidence of unfair means in the making of your portfolio is observed, your candidature will automatically stand cancelled.

Your portfolio may contain:

• Sketches, mixed media illustrations and digital work
• Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles
• Photography
• 3D objects like sculpture, fabric products, gadgets, art inspired products etc.

During the online interaction, you may be asked for a quick demonstration of your skill so keep your basic art stationery (paper and pencils) handy.

This list is in no way exhaustive and you are free to include any other stuff which you feel represents your passion for design best. We are looking for creative thinkers and people who do not follow the crowd; impress us!

Remember, you will lose out on 60% marks if you fail to upload your portfolio

Important Notes

• SSPAD fees could increase by, up to 10% during the period of the programme. Fees would also be impacted by any introduction / change in Government Taxes as and when applicable.

General Fee Rules

• The above-mentioned fee is an annual fee and is generally payable in two installments.
• The fee would be accepted by NEFT / RTGS or by demand draft payable at Nagpur only and will have to be deposited by the candidate in the bank designated by Symbiosis School of Planning Architecture and Design through a challan.
• The students are required to pay the fees on or before the stipulated date. Late payment of fees by students (except at the time of admission) is allowed only in genuine cases. In such cases, the parent has to submit a written request to the Director and on approval has to pay the fees with a fine of Rs. 500/- per week within the approved period.
